I pitched Free League on my PDF remediation services in early 2021, as I felt what was rapidly becoming one of the largest companies in the industry could stand to invest in accessibility early. They were amenable to the idea, and it was decided I would start with their most recent release, the RPG version of the sci-fi masterpiece ALIEN.
Work for this was done entirely in Acrobat, as I was not as experience at the time and had not yet learned how to automate most of the work from within InDesign itself. It was a slow, laborious process that took over a week of manual tagging. To make things worse, it turned out that the file I had been sent had its language metadata sent to Swedish (Free League, or Fria Ligan, is based out of Stockholm). This caused nearly every line of text to read as garbled nonsense as the assistive software tried to reconcile the words it was seeing with the instructions that the file was providing on how to pronounce them. Fixing it required me to go through and manually un-garble every line, which took another week and quite a few cramped fingers.
In the end, it was good work for a good cause, and would lead to later work adjacent to the company when I remediated the Mörk Borg core book and accompanying adventure Rot-Black Sludge at the request of Johan Nohr.
