Accessibility in RPGs has always been a pet passion of mine ever since I discovered that a) it’s very doable for most books and b) it’s almost never done. All three books I published under GMDK were made PDF/UA compliant, and I’ve taken it upon myself to cold-call the biggest names in the industry to see if they’re interested in bringing their game to the widest possible audience. Generally, they are, which speaks volumes to the sort of people this hobby attracts, and makes it all the easier to love.
Old School Essentials is one of the most popular systems for OSR play, and getting Gavin’s go-ahead to remediate it was a huge victory for the community of blind and visually-impaired gamers who can now enjoy a much wider collection of games. This was also the first time I remediated a game from within InDesign, which greatly streamlined the process and removed a lot of the hassle of working with Acrobat.
