Hi, I'm Dai. I make books.

I also design posters and advertisements, make digital games accessible to the visually impaired, manage crowdfunding projects, create brand identities and marketing plans, and very occassionally write things.

2023
In early 2023, longtime friend and editing phenom Jarrett Crader launched his own TTRPG publishing company, Space Penguin Ink. Promising to make “weird games for weird people,” I was brought on from the start to handle the marketing and social media side of the business. I run the social media accounts, write the newsletter, product copy, and press kits, edit and touch up the product photos, and interface with customers, news outlets, and reviewers to promote the brand and our games.

We chugged along quite well, producing a number of small but well-regarded books, and hit an unexpected success with the Forbidden Psalm line of miniature skirmish games. But our big break came in April 2024 with the launching of the Cairn 2e Boxed Set Kickstarter, which raised over $225,000 in just under a month. During this period, I designed the Kickstarter page and all of its image assets, coordinated a Backerkit marketing campaign to promote the project outside of our usual channels (while desigining the advertisements themselves) and prepared daily social media “blasts” showcasing different aspects of the campaign. These efforts brought a total of 2,305 paying customers directly from off-site referrals.

Later that year, two of our book were nominated for Ennies (VR DEAD for best monster / adversary, and The Bloom for best longform adventure) and Space Penguin Ink itself was nominated for best publisher. With the way things are going, we’re expecting to be nominated again next year as well.
