Hi, I'm Dai. I make books.

I also design posters and advertisements, make digital games accessible to the visually impaired, manage crowdfunding projects, create brand identities and marketing plans, and very occassionally write things.

The Monster Overhaul
Dim All The Lights
Digest softcover
Published by R. Rook Studio
Forthcoming

Dim All The Lights and its companion, the Bracknell Horror series, are the first in a planned sequence of follow-ups to the Ennie-nominated queer pulp mystery game Moonlight on Roseville Beach. Continuing the aesthetic theme set by its predecessor, all art in these books have been repurposed from the public domain: the cover for Dim All The Lights is one of my prouder creations, as it is made up of three different illustrations from three different artists from two different centuries.

I took a seperate approach with the Bracknell Horror series of zines, this time inspired not by pulp paperbacks but by the pulp sci-fi magazines of the same period. As the budget was slim, I re-used the cover i had designed for Dim All The Lights for the Characters and Entities zines, close-up and with a duotone touch to give each issue a unique, vibrant color. The interior is carried by the twin might of ITC Avant Garde and ITC American Typewriter, fonts that I can only describe as “two great tastes that taste great together.”   Black-and-white illustrations, many from Weird Tales,  provide setting-appropriate flavor to the books.

While Dim All The Lights is still in production, you can follow its crowdfunding campaign here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/r-rook/dim-all-the-lights to be informed of its launch and eventual, overwhelming success.
